Why Does my PDF Export have Additional Blank Pages in SQL Server Reporting Services?

A common question I get asked by clients, when it comes to exporting SQL server reporting services reports to PDFs, is extra blank pages.

Solution:

One of the things I advise is when the report is written is to minimise the amount of excess  space around the report objects.

There is also a setting within SSRS - ConsumeContainerWorkspace

This report formatting option controls whether the minimum white space around the report objects is utilised or maintained, when the objects increases.

This only affects the white space to the right and the bottom of the report objects.

To apply the ConsumeContainerWorkspace:

  1. Click on the Report Canvas
  2. Press F4, to display the report
  3. In the Others Section, find the ConsumeContainerWorkspace option
  4. Change the setting to True
