This is my 3rd post trying to answer the question what is Intelligence.
So far I have looked at the difference between smart and intelligence and the 6 diffeerent types of intelligence.
In this post I ask the question how an you tell if someone is intelligent.
Yes there are IQ tests, but how effective are they?
I know some people who always score highly on tests and exams, but are pretty stupid, that I wouldn't ris my life with some of their decisions!
So, taking an alternative approach I thought I would ask what are the signs of high intelligence, according to psycology.
1. They stay up late
Intelligent people tend to be night owls, they go to bed later and wake up later than their lesser inteligent cohorts.
People who stayed up late wer probably outliers, or weirdos, who have had novel ideas and/or thoughts that kept them up longer. It may be possible that by staying up later this gave them the opportunity to think about other mudane things during the day, and being like everyone else.
2. They are curious
I believe most people el understand that curiosity is a sign of intelligence.
By curiosity I'm talking about epistemic curiosity, tye desire to acquire new knowledge elicited by new and complex ideas or conceptual ambiguities, rather than sensory curiosity, trying new things or looking for new experiences.
This thirst for new knowledge and information is a reliable indicator of highly intelligent people
3. They are Funny
Interestingly, humour, the ability to make and appreciate jokes is a sign of intelligence!
If you can't take a joke, struggle to get the joke and ithas to be eplained to them, thus draining the humour out of them, in an indicator of moderate to low IQ.
Looking at dark humour researcher found that tose with high intelligence appreciated the dark implications and the satirical elements, and as such were not offended by it.
4. Good at Ready and Writing
Humans communicate in words (spoke and/or written) and it takes intelligence to process and uderstand ideas.
Highly intelligent individuals are good at both abstract and concrete reasoning, problem-solving, memory recall and verbal intelligence.
Research has found that your writing ability is related to verbal intelligance and grammatical ability, meaning that those whi exhibit higher abilities at understanding spoken language are better at writing
5. Their minds wander
Highly intelligent people don't pay attention when they have more important and/or interesting things to think about.
Sometmes refered to space cadets, when their minds wander, they may not be lost in space or fantasiies, but they could very well be thinking about things that are much more stimulating and intellectually challenging that what's currently going on around them at that time.
Research has found that mind wandering is highly linked to creativity and fluid intelligence, and this idea is backed up with the fact that intelligent people have a lot to think about, a lot of curiosity. and the ability to go deep into thei minds even when there are a myriad of distractions around them.
