I am frequently asked by trainers looking to become freelance IT trainers, "What equipment will I need to start up with?"
E is for Equipment
The good news is that to become a freelance IT trainer, one
does not need oodles and oodles of equipment.
To start with you need a smart phone, so that you can have
the office with you when you are out and about with clients, and respond to
enquiries and requests efficiently.
Next you will need a laptop.
The main reason is that when working on-site, you never
really know what equipment will be there for you to use, assuming you have the
space in the first place.
Clients expects trainers to travel with their own laptop.
When working with direct clients, one may also want to
invest in a projector, as most will have a flipchart and/or white board.
As most of my direct clients prefer their training to be
delivered on-site, it is for them to ensure that they have PCs and/or laptops
with the software installed and networked, ready for me to deliver the
training, so there is very little need for me invest in having 6 delegate
laptops.
Worst case scenario, one can always rent/lease them as and
when required.
